5 Ways To Prevent Lyme Disease In Dogs

Lyme disease (aka Lyme borreliosis), is a bacterial illness that can be transmitted to humans, dogs, and other animals by certain species of ticks. As April is Prevent Lyme Disease in Dogs Month, it is only fitting to discuss ways to prevent this awful disease from attacking your pup.
1 - Stay Away From Wooded Areas
Tall grasses, marshes and wooded areas often contain ticks. Be sure to clear shrubbery next to your home and keep your lawn well maintained.
2 - Daily Tick Checks
It is important to check yourself and your pup for ticks daily after walks. Some common places ticks hide on dogs are: the feet (and between toes), on lips, around eyes, ears (and inside ears), near the anus, and under the tail.
3 - Remove Ticks ASAP
If you find a tick on your pup, be sure to take care of it immediately. The faster you remove the tick, the less likely your pup will be to contract a disease from their bite.
